The morning after

Me: Look at the state of you all!

Nell: Stop shouting. Some of us are still trying to sleep.

Me: It was quite a party. I’m glad I stuck to mineral water.

Nell: I’m sure I only had a couple of Pimm’s.

Me: Richard Price has a lovely singing voice.

Nell: Does he?

Me: Don’t you remember your duet?

Nell: Not really.

Me: Or Poppy in cowboy boots calling herself Poppy Lee Martin and singing country hits with the farm dogs as backing singers? Or the line dancing? That was fun and you were very good at it which was surprising.

Nell: I don’t know how we got so inebriated. Even Harriet, and she never drinks.

Me: Don’t worry, Richard Price wasn’t drinking and he helped me clear up. We had a lovely chat. He is so sensible and kind.

Nell: Wait a moment. David had a phone call and he was very agitated. He wanted to talk to me about something and then someone dragged him away. He mentioned Charlie. Was Charlie there?

Me: Not as far as I know.

Nell: I need to ask David about it when he wakes up. It’s still a bit of a blur.

Me: Let’s hope he remembers.

Nell: Something is wrong.

Me: What do you mean?

Nell: I think someone spiked our drinks.

Me: Why?

Nell: I don’t know, but I am going to find out and you are going to help me.

Me: Just call me Watson.

Nell: Don’t be silly. I need my handbag and some hot tea, toast and marmalade. We have work to do. As soon as the others wake up send them to me.

Me: Yes. Sorry.
