Such Fun

Me: You all had such fun in the activity field.

Nell: We did.

Me: So many smiling faces. It was a joy to behold.

Nell: Nigel and Boo certainly made the most of it.

Me: I know. They were dashing around like young puppies.

Nell: Nigel paid for it later.

Me: Yes. Charlotte warned me that he might feel rather achy.

Nell: I’m guessing you had a bad night.

Me: It wasn’t great. When you’re achy like that you need lots of attention and cuddles.

Nell: I don’t.

Me: No. You and Nigel are very different.

Nell: He seems much better this morning.

Me: Yes, he does and that’s a great relief.

Nell: Especially as he and Boo are singing a duet for Sunday Songs.

Me: I didn’t know.

Nell: Why do you think they’re both wearing top hats?

Me: Fashion statement?

Nell: ‘Puttin’ On The Ritz’.

Me: Must we? I’m still in pyjamas.

Nell: No, that’s what they’re singing. Do keep up.

Me: I hope there’s no dancing.

Nell: Of course there’s dancing. The llamas have been practising for hours.

Me: I meant Nigel and Boo.

Nell: There’s a little swaying to and fro and some tossing of canes.

Me: Gosh.

Nell: I think the Whippets Institute Big Band is an unnecessary extra, but any excuse and they’re packed and ready to go.

Me: I saw the minibus pull in.

Nell: I worry about their instruments. Piling them on top of the minibus seems awfully precarious.

Me: I don’t think they drive very fast.

Nell: Have you seen the way they zip along the Devon lanes? Now, Herr Hoffmann’s made German doughnuts for elevenses.

Me: Berliner?

Nell: No. Doughnuts filled with jam.

Me: They’re called Berliner in Germany.

Nell: Just make sure everyone has a serviette.

Me: Yes. Sorry.
