Me: It’s always good to see Tony’s smiling face. It brightens our day.
Nell: David brought him a tea towel.
Me: He always likes to bring people a present and it was the first thing he found.
Nell: Manuel was trying to dry the dishes with it.
Me: Oh dear.
Nell: David snatched it out of his tentacles.
Me: He was just over excited. Darling Big Brave Beautiful Boy.
Nell: Tony didn’t even get the tea towel.
Me: Dave never actually gives it to him. It must be a Labrador thing. You used to bring me shoes.
Nell: I was only a puppy. David is six. Anyway, why are you up and doing at this hour of a morning? It’s Sunday.
Me: The plumber is coming to fix a few things.
Nell: On a Sunday?
Me: It was the only time he had. Bless him.
Nell: Can he sing?
Me: I don’t know. Why?
Nell: He’ll have to join in Sunday Songs if he’s here.
Me: He’ll be too busy for that, Nell.
Nell: If Tony was here he would join in.
Me: Of course he would. Tony is a wonderful singer.
Nell: The plumber might be a singer.
Me: I’m not asking the plumber to sing, Nell. It’s kind enough of him to pop in on a Sunday.
Nell: I bet he’d sing for a Yorkshire pudding, or one of Herr Hoffmann’s German biscuits.
Me: Well, we’re never going to know.
Nell: There aren’t any Yorkshire puddings anyway. Herr Hoffmann is making goulash,
Me: I hope we’re having dumplings.
Nell: Probably.
Me: And no, I’m not asking the plumber to sing for a dumpling.
Nell: I bet he’d sing for a bacon sandwich and a big mug of tea.
Me: Anyone would.
Nell: My point exactly.
Me: Yes. Sorry.
