Me: Today is an emotional day.
Nell: It is.
Me: Jonathan Sky turns six and we say goodbye to our dear Queen.
Nell: I’ve written two poems. Would you like to hear them?
Me: Very much.
Nell: Let’s start with Jonathan.
Me: Yes.
Nell: ‘Someone rather special
Is six years old today.’
‘Rather special, is he?
And six years old, you say?
Would he like a dinosaur?’
‘Of course, but not right now
He’s busy eating spaghetti
And making dogs miaow.’
‘Dogs bark you silly person
Everyone knows that
Now go and get the sandwiches
And put on your birthday hat.’
‘David ate the sandwiches
He did it by mistake
But Harriet’s got ice cream
And Poppy’s made a cake.’
‘Let’s fetch Fayely Whaley
So we can sing our song
Happy Birthday Jonathan Sky
Today you can do no wrong.’
Me: He’ll love that.
Nell: And we love him.
Me: We certainly do.
Nell: And now to The Queen’s poem.
Me: Yes.
Nell: ‘Thank you Your Majesty
For all you have done
For the years that you served
Always being the one
We knew would be there
Whatever might be
In sickness and health
It was your constancy
That made you unique
Among women and men
Steadfast and unchanging
Until the time when
You had to leave us
You had to go
So Thank You Your Majesty
We all loved you so.’
Me: That was beautiful, Nell. It’s hard to believe she has gone.
Nell: She’s watching over us now with all the other Guardians.
Me: Yes.
Nell: We’ll FaceTime with Jonathan and Faye this afternoon.
Me: We will.
Nell: We come and we go. It’s the way of the world. So, let’s celebrate two wonderful people. Raise your tea cup to Jonathan Sky and The Queen.
Me: Yes. Sorry.
