Me: We all got rather wet in the activity field, didn’t we? It just wouldn’t stop raining.
Nell: Did you have to take photos? Poppy was absolutely drenched.
Me: Poppy doesn’t care about a bit of rain.
Nell: It was pouring.
Me: Well, I think you’re all adorable with wet coats. Dave always looks like he’s been using too much hair gel.
Nell: David certainly enjoyed himself.
Me: Darling Big Brave Beautiful Boy. Dashing around like the field like a puppy.
Nell: It was good for him to let off steam after the last few days.
Me: How is The Cat?
Nell: Highly motivated. It’s started working on the costumes for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Me: Gosh. What a huge responsibility. I’m not sure I can see Her Majesty in sequins. She’s sometimes sparkly but not often nowadays.
Nell: Not for The Queen. For us. Good grief. The Queen has her own designers.
Me: Of course. Silly me. I’m glad The Cat has a new project. It must be hard to be the odd one out in a family of Minimalists.
Nell: Talking of Minimalists, my friend Dorothy says a new shop is opening in town.
Me: How exciting.
Nell: It’s called ‘Less is More’.
Me: There won’t be much to buy then. See what I did there?
Nell: Very funny.
Me: Just empty shelves.
Nell: Anyway, as soon as it opens Dorothy and I are going to pop in and have a look around.
Me: Good idea.
Nell: Now, what time is your hair appointment?
Me: This afternoon.
Nell: Don’t go wild, please. Nice and neat.
Me: I’m never neat, Nell. It’s not me.
Nell: The Usual You will do splendidly. Don’t change.
Me: What a kind thing to say.
Nell: Don’t get used to it.
Me: No. Sorry.
