Me: I caught Harriet playing Cheeky Animals.
Nell: She’s an excellent player.
Me: I saw the tip of her tongue so I knew what she was planning and kept watching until she stuck her tongue out.
Nell: Did you say ‘Cheeky Animal’?
Me: Yes, and I took a photo.
Nell: I mean the first time.
Me: What first time?
Nell: When you could see the tip of her tongue?
Me: No, I waited.
Nell: It’s a draw. She won the first round.
Me: I didn’t know the tip of the tongue counted.
Nell: Well, you do now. Moving on, how was your aqua class?
Me: Really lovely. Water is my happy place.
Nell: Like Harriet.
Me: Yes, and Alice and Jonathan. Did I tell you they sometimes get up at 6am to go swimming in the lake before school?
Nell: You didn’t, but I like to think of them doing that.
Me: So do I.
Nell: Did anyone ask where you’d been this past week?
Me: Yes, they asked if I’d been on holiday and I explained I’d been at the hospital as Kev had been unwell.
Nell: How is Kev?
Me: He’s definitely on the mend but still on antibiotics.
Nell: It was a bad infection.
Me: Yes, it was.
Nell: He’s probably been eating too much fish recently.
Me: That’s absolute nonsense, Nell, and you know it.
Nell: He’s a man not a seal. How is Princess, by the way?
Me: She and Sir Roger Blubbery are enjoying all the attention from the tourists.
Nell: Grockles love seal watching.
Me: And Herr Hoffmann is making Kev a steak pie for Kev’s dinner this evening with new potatoes, broccoli and green beans so no sign of fish.
Nell: Why bring fish into it? We were discussing seals.
Me: Sorry.
