Me: Are Poppy and Dave waiting for someone?
Nell: They most certainly are.
Me: It’s a bit too early for Tony.
Nell: Are you sitting down?
Me: You know I’m sitting down. You can see me.
Nell: You’re not going to believe this.
Me: I just might.
Nell: Oscar Barberino is on his way.
Me: Did Knitwear Wolf persuade him to sing at Dave’s Mayoral Concert tomorrow?
Nell: He did more than that. The Great Barberino is coming to stay.
Me: Here?
Nell: Yes. He’ll be wanting a large bed.
Me: Why? Is he a Great Dane?
Nell: No, he’s a Schnauzer but he’ll need room for his soft toys.
Me: Excuse me?
Nell: He never travels without them. Poppy should stop staring out of the window and start preparing lunch.
Me: What about our bacon sandwiches?
Nell: The Great Barberino prefers mac and cheese.
Me: But it’s Saturday and we usually eat them watching Saturday Kitchen.
Nell: There’s no time for that.
Me: Dave’s going to be awfully disappointed.
Nell: Nonsense. As Mayor of Kingsbridge he is above such things.
Me: Except he isn’t. When is Oscar arriving?
Nell: Soon. Rupert has gone to collect him on his motorbike and don’t call him Oscar.
Me: Fine. I hope he doesn’t mind travelling in a sidecar.
Nell: Before he arrives we need to remind everyone that it’s the first of the month.
Me: Do we have to?
Nell: Yes. You write a story every day and it’s perfectly acceptable to ask them to help.
Me: I suppose so.
Nell: The link is https://www.buymeacoffee.com/saramartin and we appreciate your support.
Me: I would be very grateful. Your contributions genuinely make a difference.
Nell: See, that wasn’t too difficult, was it? People are very kind if you let them be.
Me: Yes. Sorry.
